Finback Roof Garden and Lounge

Client: Finback Restaurant, LLC

Location: Bar Harbor, Maine

Completion: Summer 2013

Finback Restaurant hired Ervin Architecture to be their architect on a very exciting project along one of the main thoroughfares in Bar Harbor, and has asked Ervin Architecture to design a roof garden and lounge complete with a kitchen, and full bar. The concept, is to have a sanctuary for people to coexist with nature, rain or shine, and enjoy the great menu and ambiance already at the Finback Restaurant, only outside. An ironwood-clad backdrop will set the stage for reclaimed granite pavers, and a marble-topped curvilinear bar, creating the feel of a european beer garden in the country. Contemporary glass and wicker furniture will fill out the space reminding us we are in town, but the primary attraction will be the intensive green roof. That is, a roof with not only grasses, wildflowers, ivy, and small shrubs that have a modest root base, but birch trees and high-bush blueberry bushes that need a deeper soil depth. This is a high-profile project along Cottage Street in Bar Harbor, and Ervin Architecture looks forward to seeing it open for business sometime early in the summer season of 2013.
